Day 4 Cape Cod

And it’s on to the Cape! We left Wompatuk this morning more or less on time. As on time as you can be with David Boss! He is an awesome traveler, a very handy RVer and an easygoing companion, but time is not his worry! Our first stop was LL Bean. As the RV tends to take up more than its fair share of any parking lot, we were in a hurry but that may not be a bad thing when we are let loose in LL Bean! A double quick trip through Whole Foods and we were heading south to Cape Cod. Very thankful we were heading on to the Cape and not part of the 20+km of multi-lane traffic creeping off!! When we arrived at the campground we asked the woman at the front desk if that was usual – we thought maybe we should start to line up now for Thursday! Apparently it is very typical of early Sunday afternoon and corresponds with checkout time at the end of the weekend! Glad we’re leaving on a Thursday!

We decided to take the rest of today to situate ourselves on the island. Our friends Kate and Chris recommended this campground for its central location and that became readily apparent. Our wandering today led us to The Ice Cream Smuggler in Dennis, Captain Frosty’s Fish and Chips (in that order – life is short, eat dessert first!) and landed us at Drummer Boy Park Band Shelter in Brewster to enjoy a Sunday evening concert with the local town band (who were really quite good!). The concert was 90 minutes long and right before the intermission the conductor came down with a marching drum and led all the kids (little and big ones!) in a march around the band shell as the band played a Sousa march! Everyone in the crowd was given a flag to wave in the parade and it really was quite a party! At another point in the evening they played a medley of theme songs from the various armed services and asked that members from each particular branch stand to be recognized for their service. I’m always a sucker for a display of patriotism so I quite enjoyed it!

With the sun setting we stopped at the beach on the way back to the trailer. Finding a walk on the beach will never be a problem here with literally hundreds of miles of beaches! My kind of place!

We finished the day with a walk around town finding The Brewster Store. Built in 1852 it is the quintessential New England general store with candy, toys and memorabilia that we hadn’t seen in years! A fun way to end the day – beckoning one another back and forth across the store to “come look at this!”
