Day 17 Williamsburg
Today we left Washington with some regret for the things we hadn’t seen yet we were heading toward what we know will be another adventure and a reunion with our dear friends and travel buddies, Cliff and Liz!
We set off from Maryland, passed DC and were in Virginia in
no time. According to the GPS we were to be there in less than three hours.
What the GPS doesn’t understand is traffic! It’s Saturday for heaven sake.
Where do all the people come from? Our trip almost doubled in length as we creeped
through the state on our way to Williamsburg. Arriving at American Heritage
Park we were told, “Oh yes, that’s because it’s Saturday.” Apparently the I64
is not only the route to bring us here; it is also the only road to the beach!
Clearly Virginia Beach is very popular on the weekend!
David and I set up and Cliff and Liz had not yet arrived. We
suspected they were stuck in the same traffic snarls so we settled into happy
hour to wait for them. There is always a thrill when you are away from home and
see someone you know, even if you know they’re coming!
About an hour later they arrived and we spent a wonderful evening
catching up on our respective adventures (Cliff and Liz have just returned from
Europe) and we enjoyed dinner together and a hike through the surrounding woods
to get our 10,000 steps in for the day!
Like John, Liz is a planner and an organizer so this part of
the trip is a total adventure for me. Cliff and Liz have been here before so we
are happy to follow their lead, meaning I have no idea where I am going tomorrow
or what I am doing! Thrilling!!
We made it an early night as tomorrow will undoubtedly be
busy. We had a longer than expected day of travel. I should be taking care with
my back (I really am fine though) and Cliff is just getting over a bout of food
poisoning! Stay tuned for tales from Colonial Willliansburg!

| Our hike. Isn't it cute how they dress alike? Honestly how does David keep doing this? |

So great to find you set up comfortably at the campsite, drinks in hand and dinner already planned. We're actually just along for the ride and the fun!
